Ready, Steady, Snow – Our Top 5 Ski Resorts in Europe

If you’re dreaming of snow-covered mountains, log fires and a warm glass of mulled wine this winter, then why not head to the slopes on an action-packed ski holiday with your loved ones?

When planning a ski holiday there is a lot to consider, from equipment hire to childcare and most importantly, choosing the perfect resort, that ticks all the boxes on the mountain! With so much to remember, it’s easy for the planning process to become overwhelming and you may wish to seek expert advice.

So, with all this in mind we’ve selected 5 of our favourite ski resorts in Europe to point you in the right direction:

1. Meribel

A skiing holiday in Meribel, France is one of the Three Valleys liveliest resorts, set in the heart of one of the largest ski areas in the world. The resort boasts beautiful forests with fantastic views, wonderful wood chalets and awe-inspiring panoramas. Not to mention that there are plenty of shops, bars and restaurants close by! Meribel’s slopes are some of the best in the world, making them ideal for beginners, improvers and experts alike. Irrespective of your skiing ability, we can ensure you will have one of the best winter breaks in Meribel.

2. Courchevel

Neighbouring resort to Meribel in the Three Valleys is beautiful Courchevel, often known as ‘Paris on ice’. This is a truly world class resort with its fine selection of hotels, designer boutiques, top class restaurants and buzzing nightlife. For those who wish to ski til they drop – this is the place to be. Courchevel offers great skiing for all abilities, with immaculate pistes and stunning scenery. The resort is spread over 4 levels, all which are linked to a free bus service, with a variety of slopes offering something for everyone including the ultimate ski safari.

3. Val d’Isere

Val d’Isere together with its sister resort Tignes, is one of the finest ski resorts you can visit, where you can be sure of plenty of snow! Combined, they are pretty much unbeatable, particularly for skiers and snowboarders alike, who are searching for challenging off-track terrain. These resorts are a part of the fantastic Espace Killy ski area, offering endless excitement to suit all tastes and abilities. With many cleared walks, shops and a sports centre, Val d’Isere also offers plenty for the non-skier, including it’s popular nightlife, which ranges from lively clubs to cosy creperies and traditional restaurants.

4. Chamonix

Chamonix is one of the oldest French resorts, most famous for Mont Blanc, the highest mountain in Western Europe. Popular with both summer climbers and winter free riders, this favoured destination features five different ski areas, with plenty to explore! From the testing slopes for ambitious skiers at Argentiere to cruising blue runs and fun reds at Brevent-Flegere. Chamonix is a winter wonderland, catering for every taste and ability. It is also a prime destination for snowboard enthusiasts from around the world, who watch and compete in many world-renowned competitions.

5. Portes du Soleil

Encompassing 14 different resorts on both the French and Swiss border, this is one of the biggest resorts you will find, with over 400km of ski runs. There are too many resorts to mention, but our favourites are the quirky little town of Avoriaz, which is only accessible by cable car, Morzine, and the bustling centre of Portes du Soleil. This is where the world class skiing is located, with the majority of these runs classed as easy cruising blue and reds, with some particular challenging spots to be hunted down by keen skiers and snowboarders. There are also nursery slopes and practice areas for novices and children, where families can get away from the main resort traffic.

Whether you’re a beginner or seasoned skier, we can help you choose the right resort to suit everyone in your family or group. We can organise lift passes, book ski lessons, organise accommodation and travel, and give you the choice to fly from a wide range of UK airports – all to make your journey to the slopes as convenient as possible, ensuring a great start to your holiday.
