Our Top 3 Romantic Destinations for Couples

There are many locations in the world that carry the tag of being “romantic” locations – but are they? At first glance, Paris is wonderful, with great food & wine without a doubt, but surely hospitality has a major part to play in making a romantic experience? Bali is beautiful too, but with an 18 hours flight time to get there – surely that is enough to kill off any romance?

We have put together our top 3 romantic destinations for couples, filled with our own tips, tricks and advice from our own travels.

1. Maldives

The Maldives is probably on many peoples lists and it is now very popular. However, with 135 different resorts across the Maldives we believe there is something to suit everyone!

To start with you will need to get a seaplane or speed boat transfer from the main Mali airport. At this stage, you already know that this is something special and different! The secret when going to the Maldives is go “all inclusive”. This way you can manage your budget, as buying anything on the island is very expensive.

Many of the resorts are islands of their own so for romantic solitude, where else can get this experience? Enjoy private beach villas with their own pools to unique water villas where you gaze into the crystal clear waters, and watch the restful sea creatures roam the waters.

The reason we choose Maldives over Seyschelles, for example – is all down to the people, hospitality and service. Some resorts offer you your own personal butler service and they are all genuinely there to make your stay the most memorable and romantic occasion.

2. Venice

Venice will probably feature in many peoples list of romantic cities. Be it the stereotypical gondola ride, the perfect sunset, the street side cafes, or the fabulous numerous bridges over the canals. Our view is romance should be away from the crowds so have a think about these ideas:

  • If you are an early riser, head to St Mark’s square and beat the crowds and have the square to yourself.
  • Witness sung mass at the Basilica and carry the beautiful singing with you across the square.
  • Find a secluded café in the streets of Dorsoduro for breakfast away from the crowds and expense of St Mark’s square.
  • Try and get to Cannarego, north of San Polo, to experience everyday Venice in the sprawling streets and alleyways.
  • Explore the lesser known neighbourhoods and find an out of the way “Bacaro” (local bar) and sip Prosecco and sample some delicious crostini.
  • Instead of the gondola – take a water taxi for a cheaper but just as charming route through the city. (Maybe also a trip on the Number 1 Vaporeto to the Lido to take in the views across the lagoon to the Italian mainland!)
  • Don’t forget the wonderful sunsets – another good aspect to see from a water taxi as it glistens across the water!
  • For the walkers, take in some beautiful walks on Sant’Erasmo – away from the crowds and walk through the fields of artichokes.
  • Visit the island of Burano, where you can see all the fantastic colourful homes along the waterside – great way to experience the fresh air away from the city bustle for a romantic afternoon.

3. Bangkok

Now Bangkok may not obviously be at the top of your list of romantic locations. However, when you are at the roof terrace of the city’s funkiest roof top bar at the Hotel Muse, known as The Speakeasy, the inspiring view just sets you up for that romantic of all moments.

Whilst in Bangkok, get out early and discover some of the historic sites. Grab a tour and go off to see the floating markets, and then book sometime to visit at least a couple of the well known temples – Wat Phra Kaew and The Temple of the Emerald Buddha are well worth a visit.

When you looking to grab lunch, try the street food – it is amazing and freshly cooked! Then join in with the locals at Kri Yoga – a blend of yoga postures, fitness, pilates – but obviously done the Thai way – then head to the Jasmine Spa and indulge in a fabulous Thai massage. If you can, combine your break through a weekend, the Chatuchak Weekend Markets are a must.

Having soaked up the culture and having been inspired by the romantic culture of Thailand in Bangkok, you will deserve some further relaxation – so maybe off to for romantic Koh Samui 5 Star beach break?

If the Maldives, Venice and Bangkok don’t fit your agenda for an romantic getaway, then please don’t hesitate to get in touch and we can create a perfect couple’s holiday tailored to suit you and your partner perfectly.
